AAC members – rights and responsibilities!

Hi members
In the committee meeting on Wednesday it was discussed that it might be time for a friendly reminder for newer members, and indeed all of us, that there are many benefits of being a member of The Greatest Fell Running Club in The World and also some responsibilities that come with it.
You may do some, or all, of the following: race for the club in races or relays, attend training on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays, compete in the club champs, enjoy club events like the orienteering, uphill and downhill races, travel with the club to races or weekends away, attend events such as the nutrition, first aid or navigation courses or simply just arrange runs (or enjoy the banter) with clubmates on the Facebook group!
The cost of all this is covered (or subsidised) by our £10 annual membership fee and the small profit that our eleven club races make. Most fell runners would agree that one of the best things about fell running is the club-led, informal, cheap races that are the heart of the sport and our races listed below offer great value and are an excellent example of that.
The committee and club’s race organisers ask that those members who access the benefits, give back to the club in some way, and the easiest way of doing this is by helping at our races.
At the meeting everyone agreed that we are lucky to have so many members who help as much as they do! However, at the moment it is a dedicated, and reasonably small, number of fantastic folk that are helping at a large number of races and can be relied upon time and again.
We would like to widen this so that all club members get involved and commit to volunteering at AAC events once or twice a year. If you are new to this, there’s lots to do: you could park cars (and still race), summit marshal (and still get a decent hike in) or help with entries and registration (and stay warm and dry!). There’s something for everyone. Whatever your age or experience please get involved – your club needs you! Our races are listed below and the organisers always put a shout out for help a month or couple of weeks in advance so offer to help then if you can.
As a small club, we only manage to put on so many fantastic events due to the generous help that is readily given. See you at the next one – long live fell running!
