Todd Crag Junior Fell Race
Wed 10th April 2019
Complete race information here.
These friendly routes from the park in Ambleside herald the start of Summer for many. The routes are of varying length dependent on age group, all with a brutal start, stretching out over Loughrigg Fell to varying degrees and ending with a breakneck descent back to the crowds at the finish in the park. There are always plenty of chocolatey prizes and with all the delights of Ambleside on offer this must surely be the best junior fell race on the calendar.
Registration opens at the Parish Centre, Ambleside at 4:30pm. No earlier please, as the Centre is in use by church groups before this. The first race (U9) starts at 6pm, so you will have plenty of time. There will be refreshments available at the Parish Centre during the afternoon. Toilets are also available at the Parish Centre. All races start from Rothay Park, just a 2-minute walk from registration. Please find your own local parking – Ambleside has several large carparks. 2015 Race report
What a great night of running for the Todd Crag Race! The organisation was fantastic with a super-slick registration process and marshalls all over the fell to ensure none of our runners strayed from the course.
Thank you Eleanor for all your hard work and to all the marshalls who gave up their time to ensure the race ran safely and smoothly.
As usual, fantastic weather was pre-ordered and the evening run in the sunshine was set against the backdrop of the Fairfield Horseshoe behind the start at Rothay Park in the centre of Ambleside.
We had runners from all round the country taking advantage of a great midweek race in the Easter holidays with the cake stall proving as popular as the fell race. Thanks to all who donated cakes or volunteered to man the stalls.
Tom N stormed to his first victory and Sam T wasn’t far behind to take 3rd place in the U8 boys’ race. For the girls, Jessica Edmondson romped home to win for our sister club Broughton Runners with her team-mate Olivia Swarbrick coming in 3rd. In the U12 race it was girl-power all the way as the first 3 Ambleside runners home were Chloe R (Winner of the girls’ race and 4th overall), Sophie R and Bethan R. Well done for giving the boys a lesson in how to run like a girl! In the U14 race Jessica’s brother Ben Edmondson was a convincing winner for Broughton and our U17 runners had a big step up as they ran (very successfully) in the adults’ race.
