RACE RESULTS 2023

Saturday 6th May 2023

Exciting routes will see runners racing over Loughrigg Fell to varying degrees depending on the age group. Something for everyone with brutal climbs, scrambles, bogs, thigh burning descents and cracking views if you get a chance to look up!

Registration

PRE ENTRY ONLY,  there will be no entry on the day and no entries after the closing date.

Rules

Please take time to familiarise yourselves with the FRA rules for runners.  These courses will be challenging and all juniors will be required to carry a waterproof top, hat and gloves.

Dependent on weather conditions, the U15,  U17 and U19 age groups may be required to carry waterproof trousers too.

We encourage the children to be independent and we love enthusiastic supporters. However, it is not permitted to run alongside your child (as you may get in the way of other children racing), and they have to carry their own kit (if specified in the race entry details) for the whole race.

Thank you

Routes

All routes are fully flagged and marshalled. No race will start before the scheduled time.

The U9’s is the ONLY race not to start and finish in Rothay Park.

U9 – 0.78km / 39m ascent (pink flags)   START 11.00am

Due to the 1km racing distance we unfortunately need to start and finish the U9 race up on the fell to avoid just running up and down a road. Please can ALL U9 runners meet at the start area in Rothay Park at 10.30am and they will be walked up to their race start. A marshal will also be available after the race to walk everyone down. Please be aware that as you descend racers will be going up!

Runners will race from the start, up and around Lily Tarn clockwise and descend back to the finish.

U9 Course Flyby

U11 – 2 km / 120m ascent (blue flags)   START 11.20am

Runners start and finish in Rothay Park.

U11 Course Flyby

U13 – 2.85km / 167m ascent (white flags)   START 11.40am

Runners start and finish in Rothay Park.

U13 Course Flyby

U15 – 4.80 km / 250m ascent (red flags) START 12.05pm

Runners start and finish in Rothay Park.

U15 Course Flyby

U17 + U19 (+U20) Girls – 6.50km / 360 m ascent  (yellow flags)  START 12.45pm

As this age group is also the U18 Youth Cup trial (those born 2006 and 2007) and the U20 World junior up and down champs trial (those born 2004 – 2007 inclusive), the U17, U19, U20 Girls will race together over the same route. Athletes will be clearly marked as to whether they are U17, U19, U20 and those trying out, so everyone knows who they are chasing. English Champs points will be U17 and U19 as usual.

The race starts and finishes in Rothay park.

U17 & U19 Course Flyby

U17 + U19 (+U20) Boys – 6.50km / 360m ascent (yellow flags) START 1.30PM

As this age group is also the U18 Youth Cup trial (those born 2006 and 2007)and the U20 World junior up and down champs trial (those born 2004 – 2007 inclusive), the U17, U19, U20 Boys will race together over the same route. Athletes will be clearly marked as the whether they are U17,U19, U20 and those trying out, so everyone knows who they are chasing. English Champs points will be U17 and U19 as usual.

The race starts and finishes in Rothay Park. The route is the same as for the girls race – see map and flyby above.

Kit

The routes cover open fell and exposed terrain and all runners must come prepared to carry kit that complies with the FRA guidelines (U9,11,13, waterproof jacket, hat and gloves. U15,17,19 waterproof jacket + trousers, hat, gloves). The RO on the day will make a decision as to exactly what kit should be carried on the day – this info will be available at registration. Suitable shoes for fell running are expected to be worn. Kit will be checked and Anyone found trying to cheat these safety rules will be disqualified and/or prevented from running and the FRA will be informed

2015 Race report

Todd Crag Fell race 2015

What a great night of running for the Todd Crag Race! The organisation was fantastic with a super-slick registration process and marshalls all over the fell to ensure none of our runners strayed from the course.Todd Crag Fell race 2015_DSC3034

Thank you Eleanor for all your hard work and to all the marshalls who gave up their time to ensure the race ran safely and smoothly.

As usual, fantastic weather was pre-ordered and the evening run in the sunshine was set against the backdrop of the Fairfield Horseshoe behind the start at Rothay Park in the centre of Ambleside.

_DSC3047We had runners from all round the country taking advantage of a great midweek race in the Easter holidays with the cake stall proving as popular as the fell race. Thanks to all who donated cakes or volunteered to man the stalls.

Tom N stormed to his first victory and Sam T wasn’t far behind to take 3rd place in the U8 boys’ race. For the girls, Jessica Edmondson romped home to win for our sister club Broughton Runners with her team-mate Olivia Swarbrick coming in 3rd. In the U12 race it was girl-power all the way as the first 3 Ambleside runners home were Chloe R (Winner of the girls’ race and 4th overall), Sophie R and Bethan R. Well done for giving the boys a lesson in how to run like a girl! In the U14 race Jessica’s brother Ben Edmondson was a convincing winner for Broughton and our U17 runners had a big step up as they ran (very successfully) in the adults’ race.
