A favourite event for many of the juniors, the Langdale Gala Junior Races take place as part of the Langdale Gala. With extensive facilities, local crafts and other sporting events for young and old alike, the Gala offers a pleasant afternoon out for all ages with a bit of exertion thrown in.
The junior races start in the Gala field from around 14:30 onward. They proceed up the hill onto the lower slopes of Silver Howe, giving breathtaking views of Great Langdale and many of the higher fells, though the junior routes themselves are short by competition standards and none of them go higher than 800ft. The U9s and under 11s get a route that can be run the whole way, whereas the older classes get the opportunity to do some steeper ascending and descending.
All timings below are approximate.
14:30 U9s race. 1.0 km with 66m of ascent.
14:45 U11s race. 1.36km with 75m of ascent.
15:00 U13s race. 1.45km with 108m ascent.
15:25 U15/U17/U19 race. 1.90km with 178m of ascent.
15:55 Senior race. 1.90km with 178m of ascent.
The 1st boy & girl in each age category will receive a small prize from the Gala Queen.

Race report 2015
The blue and green vests were a formidable team and raced brilliantly over the varied terrain in a variety of weather. The younger ones coping with the heat and the U14’s and U17’s having incredibly slippy conditions in the downpour.
Congratulations to the girls – Emma Duxbury winning the U8 girls, Sophie R sprinting in to be the U10 girls winner and Chloe R not only winning the U14 girls trophy (having only turned 12 two days previously) but being the 1st lady home with a new course record!
