The Club Championship has been reformatted this year to include some local club-led Tuesday evening events, as well as a few traditional races from the calendar. There’s even a Parkrun! Hopefully something for everybody, no clashes with Eng/Brit champs, so get involved! It’s still 4 races to count, with more to choose from.

Badger Bar Blast- Sun 26th Feb

Kicking things off in fine style with this reboot of the Loughrigg-Silver Howe race, it’s essentially the same race from Loughrigg onwards but starts on the other side of the fell, at Rydal. It’s an Ambleside AC organised race, so if you’re not racing (or even if you are), get in touch with Michelle to lend a hand. Marshals needed!

Fell Foot Parkrun- Sat 18th March

OK, so it’s not a fell race but its fast, furious, fun and will really get those racing legs in gear for the season. It’s also a perfect opportunity for some of the juniors to get racing and competing with the seniors. Let’s pack Fellfoot with blue and green vests and remember- you need a Parkrun barcode in order to have your time recorded. Register on the Parkrun website to get yours- it’s free!

Loughrigg Orienteering- Tue 11th April

It’s back! Test your navigational mettle upon everybody’s favourite fell in this evening orienteering event organised by Michelle.

Harrison Stickle Uphill Only Race- Tue 25th April

Organised by Dan. Likely to be time-trial style and a real test of uphill prowess in this lung busting ascent of one of Langdale’s finest. From the Stickle Barn Tavern.

Wetherlam/Wet Side Edge Race- TBC

From the Three Shires pub, organised by Ian. More details to follow.

Blencathra- Wed 7th June

A classic medium, and a tough midweek race. Good prep for the Eng/Brit Champs Tebay race on 17th June.

Red Screes Downhill Dash- Tue 28th June

Again organised by Dan, this is one for the demon descenders. Likely to be a mass start, Red Screes won’t know what’s hit it as a herd of agile Amblesiders thunder down its runnable ridge! Can’t wait for this one…!

Rydal Round- Thurs 27th July

Another race Ambleside AC have inherited this year, this classic alternative to the Fairfield Horseshoe is now organised by Carolyn who I’m sure would be happy to hear from you if you can help marshal. Guides Race optional but maximum kudos if attempted also…

Sedbergh Hills- Sun 20th Aug

The first of two AL’s in this year’s champs. Do not under any circumstances underestimate the Howgills. They may look like rolling grassy hills from a distance, but….!

Langdale Horseshoe- Sat 7th October

What more needs to be said about one of the best fellrunning races in the calendar? Other than it’s yet another one of ours, so any offers of help- get in touch with Dan.

Dunnerdale- Sat 11th November

The seemingly permanent fixture in our club championships. This hardy perennial will sort you out if you’ve been slacking since the summer…

Kirkstone Handicaps- Dec TBC

The last Kirkstone Handicaps saw a record turnout of Ambleside AC members. After all, why wouldn’t you want to run up three miles of steep tarmac on a dark, cold, wet, could do anything December evening, your silhouette illuminated by the headtorch of your pursuer, getting ever closer… Add to that the excitement of it potentially being the championships decider. The Struggle is real!
