9.12.05
2005 and 2006
As the new women’s captain (is there a special outfit
Sue?) I thought should make the effort to put together a
few lines.
Firstly, a massive thank you to Sue Owen for being the
ladies captain for all the time I can remember, which
probably isn’t very long! Anyway, however long it may
be, she has done a fine job. It’s been great to see
ladies teams out again at the relays and that’s all down
to her. She always impresses me with her commitment to
fell running, knowledge of people’s ‘form’ and, most
notably perhaps, the results. Possibly an injustice Sue,
it could just be all those hours of work avoidance at
Pete Blands. The following report of the years
achievements are totally down to her. We both apologise
for anyone that we have left out.
In the Ian Hodgson we were 55th team out of 67, 5th out
of 8 ladies teams. Sue Wood and I on the 1st leg, Vicki
Wilkinson and Julie Laverack on Leg 2, Susan Clough and
Anna Forrest on Leg 3 and Sue Owen and Ali Bramall on
Leg 4. It was a great day and brilliant to see so many
women out from the club.
The trip to Alva for the British Championships wasn’t
quite so successful, serious shoe issues hindered our
performance, many a man would have given up! Leg 1;Anna
Forrest, Leg 2; Michelle Crowley, Leg 3; Sue Owen and
Britta Sendlhofer and Leg 4;Sue Wood (demon descender)
and myself. Well done to Britta, her first relay.
Sue Wood has had a great year, being 1st at Glaramara
and Grasmere Sports, 2nd at Borrowdale and
Dockray-Hartside, 3rd at Causey Pike and Coniston. She
also finished 30th overall in the British Championships.
Sue Owen was second at Rydal Round, in horrendous
conditions. Cath Musetti and Britta 2nd and 3rd
respectively at Kirkby Moor and Jane Laycock first vet
50. Susan Clough and I won our category in the Lowe
Alpine Mountain marathon and got great new jumpers.
Anyway, moving on. Next year, I am really keen to get
teams out for the English Championship races. Please
have a think about what you would be willing to do and
get the date’s ear marked in your diary, calendar or
wall.
Carding Mill Canter Sat 4/3 short
Anniversary Waltz Sat 22/4 Med
Lord Wainstones Sat 21/4 Med
Ennerdale Sat 10/6 LONG!
Sedbergh Sun 20/8 Long
Thievely Pike Sat 23/9 Short
I imagine that some of these races sound more like
country dances to some but there will be full details
available soon, or check out the
FRA website. I propose that we ‘ladies’ have a get
together in the New Year, possibly early February and
discuss things, related and unrelated to running!
The Kendal winter league, are great little races -
Pete Blands have details. They are ideal for getting
back into racing after the Christmas period; I plan to
do a few. Also hoping to get round the Lyth Valley on
the 29th January, 23 miles, will be more of shuffle I
think. It is run by the long distance walkers
association so don’t be put off it is a great route.
Hopefully see you all at the dinner on the 16th, if not
have a great Christmas and New Year.
2006, let’s get out there, girl power….
All the best, Jane Leather
