The 3rd Annual Ambleside AC Loughrigg Orienteering Score Event

Ambleside Rugby Club 6pm onwards Tuesday 8th April 2008

UPDATE
The rugby club will be open from 5.45pm on Tuesday and you will be able to start from Fox Ghyll from 6.15pm. Latest start times will be 7.15pm.

There will be soup and cake back at the rugby club courtesy of Gary and Ben (there may be a small charge for this) and THE BAR WILL BE OPEN!!

There will be a prizegiving at 9ish.

It might also be a good idea to bring a bag to put your map in if it's wet.

Instead of the club run on this night, members and friends of the club are invited to demonstrate their navigation skills over a 1 hour score Orienteering course on Loughrigg.  For those unfamiliar with the sport, a score event is where you visit as many controls (orange kites!) as you can, in any order, and return to the start in the time you have.

This year the course will be set by Julia Laverack and, as in previous years, shouldn’t be too testing by orienteering standards. This event is also part of the club championship.

The rugby club will be open from 6pm for changing then you will need to mark up your map there then tackle the first navigational challenge of making your way to the start at Foxes Ghyll on the under Loughrigg road.

  • You can start any time between 6.30 and 7.15
  • There will be 16 controls and the idea is to visit as many as you can in 1 hour in any order
  • You get 10 points for each control you visit
  • You will lose 5 points for each minute that you are late over 1 hour
  • You will need a watch, compass, whistle and 50p for a map

When you finish, the rugby club will be open for showers and soup and cake. If anyone can help out with the food side of things, either making or serving, then let me know

Hopefully the bar will be open too so you can analyse how many times you got lost in true geeky orienteering fashion

See you there

Dan
