The 2011 Ambleside Achievement
awards
For those attending the Club AGM
(Tuesday 6th December) there will be
an opportunity to vote for the most
deserving male and female for this
award. For those unable to attend
please could you email me with your
nominations (male and female) no
later than Monday 5th December.
All votes at the AGM will be made
anonymously and all email votes will
be treated in confidence.
The Ambleside Achievement Award was
instigated by Jane Reedy back in
2008 to recognise not necessarily
the best runner in the Club but the
greatest achievement by a member of
our Club. The achievement could be
in a single race, a season of races
or results, a significant progress
over the season, a recovery or
comeback from injury or illness,
outstanding contribution or service
to the Club, or indeed anything
deemed worthy of recognition as an
achivement…
The winner will be announced at the
Ambleside Christmas Dinner (Saturday
17th December), with the trophies
being presented by our very fine
captains: Anna Forrest and Ian
Barnes.

PARKING
Please note
that due to the recent very wet weather we shall be
using the Hodge Close Quarry GR316 017 for all
competitor parking. Parking can only be accessed via the
Ambleside-Coniston road at GR 313 998. Parking will be
signed and marshalled from Little Langdale road end. Do
not try to find informal parking in Little Langdale as
this will jeopardise the future of the race. Anyone
found doing so will banned from entry in the future.
Please allow
30 minutes extra time for the 2k walk in. There will be
a tent at race assembly for bags.
JUNIORS
There will
be no Junior Races this year because of the extended
walk in to Race Assembly.
We apologise
for both these late changes.

27th August ANTI-CLOCKWISE!!!!!
Hi folks,
I've decided to set off at 2 am because it will
allow for a finish at an acceptable hour (before
9pm I hope). A dark stretch on easier ground
methinks, Ropeman in place at Broad Stand. Are
there any Supermen or women who could run
Honister to Dunmail?? This would save a bit of
petrol and hassle but allows for a food stash
and more food with the ropeman.Dont worry
somebody can be there but I'm considering
alternative options.
Its time for a bit of firming up of who and
where and I would be pleased if you could help
me out. A couple of pints at 9pm should be
enjoyed. For those limited in energy, I would
enjoy them to do the final descent off Skiddaw
The Prison Chaplain Rev Glynn Jones has signed
up for this bit. He was impressed by "the craic"
at Threlkeld during 'Fred's Run' recently and it
would be nice to show him that this is a
fellrunner norm.
Its not an accident that its on a bank holiday
so restoration of sleep can be arranged.

Fred
Rogerson put his heart and soul into the Bob Graham
Round for over forty years. It is because of Fred that
we have the precious playground that is the 42 Peaks and
any Bob Graham Club member must feel that he or she owes
Fred a huge debt. And yet the sad fact is that Fred
never managed to complete the Round himself.
Well now a
suggestion has been made by the Rogerson family to the
Bob Graham Club for a fitting memorial to Fred.

FRA Presentation Dinner
2010
In recent years
the
turnout for the FRA dinner has been rather
weak... but under Captains Barnes and Cash
we've had a great year and some great
results. The men will be collecting 3rd in
the English Championships and Jane Reedy has
won the Ladies Lakeland Classics Trophy

The FRA Presentation Dinner is to be held at
Kendal Green Hotel on Saturday 13th
November. This is the same day as the final
race in the Ambleside AC Club Championships
at Dunnerdale.
Let's have a big turn-out for both events
and make it a day to remember... Captain
Barnes has promised to run the Dunnerdale
fell race in nothing but a pair of Walshes
and his hideous 1970's pre-fashion era
shorts, whilst Simon Stainer and Dan Duxbury
have promised to do some 'bare-chested

A
Windermere 3 peaks race (trail run)
Does anyone fancy a challenge that
involves rowing (and at least one fell runner)
around Windermere area? A team of 7 is needed.
Brathay is trailing a challenge on either the
29th or 30th Aug to use as a possible future
fund raising event.
Using Brathay’s ‘whaler’ rowing boats the race
is in brief:
-
Starting on start line between 2 safety
boats where the Brathay enters the lake
-
Row down to Red Knab - drop off runner who
runs around road, over Latterbarrow, road to
ferry
-
Whaler races to pick up runner
-
Row to fell foot
-
Runner races up / down Gummers How
-
Row to Brockhole or Low Wood
-
Runner races up / down Wansfell
-
Row / race back to finish line in Brathay
bay - between headlands
If
you want to do it please give Jim your name and
he will keep you informed

Tour de
Staveley - Saturday 11th July 2009
I know there
are a few keen road cyclists amongst us at the moment so
I just wanted to let you know about Toby's Tour de
Staveley which is on Saturday 11th July. It is a non
competitive ride and there is a long course (45 miles)
and a short course (25 miles). It's a really good event
and your entry includes a post French meal at Wilfs plus
drinks. Tickets are £16 and you can get them in the shop
or online. I know a few of you came along last year
either to cycle or marshall. Would be lovely to see you
there. More details are on the website:
www.wheelbase.co.uk
Wilier and
Cannondale will be there with a selection of road bikes
to demo as well so if you fancy trying one you can book
one out for the ride but you'd have to get in quick! If
you don't fancy riding and would be free to marshall
please let me know.

Senior
fell race and the English Junior Uphill
Championships - Sunday, 28 June 2009
Registration
11am-12.30pm, Junior races 1pm - 1.45pm, Senior race
2pm
This is a super event from a very attractive country
show. The senior race is an excellent Grasmere style
blast up and down.
The race is not organised by a local club, and they
struggle to find people to help out. Adding the
Uphill Champs makes it even harder. As Ambleside is
one of the local clubs, I said I would try to get
her some help. I will be on registration, until it
is time for me to do my Junior Coordinator stuff!
I would be very grateful to anyone who can spare
some time to assist Christine Kenyon.
If you can, could you contact her at
patterda@globalnet.co.uk
Thanks in advance, and see some of you there.

AMBLESIDE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS!!!!
Please email
captains with any nominations by next Monday.
After
consulatation with several members it has been
decided that final decisions will be made at the
AGM, with folk voting for the most deserving
male and female. This seems the fairest way.
If you can't
make it the AGM please either ask someone to
vote for you or make sure you let respective
captains know who you want to own the sparkling
silver trophies.

AMBLESIDE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS...
Another award
to add to our ceremonies at the Christmas do (!)
Thought it would be good to celebrate the
successes of a few more of our runners.
So...there will be a male and female achievement
award this year, don't get too excited about
prizes/silverware, let's not get carried away.
Please email
your nominations for male/female to respective
club captains by the end of November, final
decisions will then be made by captains and
engravings made. 'Achievement' could be defined
as a running/long distance challenge, making
huge progress through the year, great results in
races, recovering from an injury/illness etc...
Get those
nominations in!
Thanks Jane

I have 2

330 (orange

The orange
shoes I think have been worn once, so look brand
new. The grey ones perhaps 10 times. Rather than
put them in the OXFAM bin at Asda I thought I'd
see if any runners wanted them......important
they go to a good home... of course...
