Loughrigg 2011

Despite the rain during the day, the weather just about held for this race. This year we had junior races (U10, U12 and U14s), in which 36 small people ran, each earning themselves a Cadbury’s Crème Egg.

In the seniors race Stuart Bond, winner in 2010 when he got within 15 seconds of breaking the record, was keen to break it this year. Unfortunately the ground conditions were a bit wet, and his shoe came off in a bog! He did however put a minute between himself and the in-form Mark Addison.

Lizzie Adams of Hallamshire Harriers stormed the course to take 6th place overall and set a course record of 30 minutes 11 seconds. This was over a minute quicker than the excellent record of 31-27 set just last year by Emma Clayton!

Lizzie and Stuart each took home what must be the most disproportionately large winner’s shield in fell running, relative to the Loughrigg Fell race’s distinctly short, low-key, mid-week and early season nature! Beers, wine, Easter eggs and vouchers were in abundance as prizes for other category winners and chasers.

Thanks to Helm Hill Runners we had 35 of them turn up to swell the field to 118, and they inevitably took home the mens and womens team prizes! Thanks to Lakes Climber & Runner in Ambleside for sponsorship and the many helpers from Ambleside AC, especially summit marshall Nigel Coe, who helped everything run so smoothly.
