Ladies Captain Report

Hi all

Prompted by Roger as to my Ladies Captain duties, I am writing a report for the English Champs racing season for the Ladies team:

The whole season was off to a good start with a club minibus, driven by Cpt Ian initially, then by our very own driver, Tony. It was a good craic and I think all that travelled, including Pip and Kia enjoyed the atmosphere.

All in all we had 10 girls racing this year in the Champs, a fantastic initial turn out for Long Mynd which was an interesting race with a kick in the end. Sadly there were subsequent injuries which kept 2 of the team out for the season.
Newcomers to the club Astrid and Tom Gibbs who are mad adventure racers, doing vast distances, came along to boost numbers at Mearley Clough and to help us closer to our medal.
Duddon is such a beautiful long race, but we were dwindling in numbers, however the ladies that came and finished felt a real sense of achievement, enjoying the evening music and midges!
Loughrigg Silverhowe was a lovely local race, and as such there was great Ambleside support from the side lines.
Whittle Pike was a bit short and hot and Sedbergh, (I am a bit biased) but what a fantastic finale and the AAC ladies won by miles!!!!!!

The result being that overall AAC ladies, just pipped Wharfedale to a silver English medal and the Vet 40s were 4th overall (medals next year girls??).

Individually, Hazel was 8th overall and Kate 3rd Vet 50.

We have both the IH and FRA relays yet to come and I am sure we can get in the top 3 for both. So see you on the 3rd and 15th of October. If you are not racing, support is always welcome.

Aside from the Champs races a few of you were doing other races, and most notable was Sarah's Windermere Marathon and Lakes 100 successes.

Of course we must mention the arrival of baby Isla Carrie O'Donnell on the 4th July!

So a massive thank you to you all for racing and supporting.

I am hoping those that didn't race this year or couldn't, will be inspired to race next year...maybe have a go at the British Champs too???

Also, anyone fancy getting a ladies team to Jura next year.......????

Anna
