Kirkstone Handicap race

7.00pm 13th DECEMBER, 2011

Wild wintry weather with snow higher up may have been forecast, but it was just a strong wind that materialised, blowing at the runners backs and giving everyone a faster time, perhaps reducing times by one to two minutes.   16 runners set off at  intervals from the bottom of Kirkstone, near the Golden rule pub, and attempted to be first to the line at the top, cheered on by Britta and Ben half way up with a clanging cow bell, Tour de France style.

Every runner, in theory, had a chance of victory, though Paul the handicap setter clearly underestimated the amazing powers of recovery of Mhairi, who only the weekend before had made a valiant attempt at a winter BG, getting as far as Bowfell before conceding defeat to the snowy fells.   Just about everyone finished  within four and a half minutes of the winner.  For the second year running Hugh had the fastest time and Rich had a good run to be second quickest.

Well done to everyone who took part, and thanks to Ken for helping with time keeping.  Same time next year: 2nd Tuesday in December.
