END OF
SEASON SOCIAL
DRINK, RUN, DRINK!

The
Idea
The
Dunnerdale Fell Race & Duddon Valley provide the venue
for the 2009 end of season club social over the weekend
of Friday & Saturday, 13th & 14th
November. The idea is for two nights over-nighting in
the Duddon Valley with the short Dunnerdale Fell Race
sandwiched in between. The weekend should provide good
opportunities to have a bit of a laugh and some exercise
in a different part of town, squeezing in a few beers
and some good food in an awesome location!
The
Accommodation
A camping
barn, sleeping 10, at High Wallabarrow Farm, near
Seathwaite, in the Duddon Valley, has been booked for
sole use by Ambleside AC for the Friday and Saturday
nights. A smaller bunkhouse adjacent to the barn,
sleeping 4, as well as a cosy bothy for 3 (four at a
push!) is also available. You’ll need pillows and
sleeping bags for the barn, bothy and bunkhouse. For
those less keen on the idea of a little ‘roughing it’
there is also a beautiful little two-bedroom cottage for
hire over the weekend. The cottage sleeps seven and
provides a few more home-comforts! There is also a
limited amount of space for a few ‘full-on campers’ to
pitch tents.

location in the Duddon Valley.

The Plan
Let’s start
with a few pre-race drinks at the Newfield Inn on the
Friday evening, prior to staying over at High
Wallabarrow Farm. The Farm is a short walk from the pub.
On Saturday morning it’s a 10-minute drive to Broughton
Mills for the start of the Dunnerdale Fell Race at 12
noon. Click the link below for details of the Race. The
excellent Blacksmith Arms in Broughton Mills provides
excellent post-race refreshment. Once suitably watered
folk can head heading back into the Duddon Valley for
dinner at the Seathwaite Inn before retiring to
‘Ambleside’ Farm for the night. Sunday morning then
provides the opportunity for exploring the beautiful
Duddon valley with plenty of choices for running,
biking, climbing and walking.
The Caw
Fell Challenge!
Chris and
Liz, along with their flock of lovable children, always
provide a warm welcome to their farm… Chris will be even
happier to see folk give his ‘Caw Fell Challenge’ a go.
The quest is to tackle an out-and-back route from the
Farm to the summit of Caw and back. Bring binoculars, as
it’s possible to watch folk for most of the route!
Chris’ mates, and Borrowdale Fell Runners, Nicola & Jim
Davies currently hold the men’s and women’s record.
