RESULTS so far
The 2011
Club Championships were a great success
with 62 club members scoring at least one point (52
scored in
2010).
The season ended with Ben Abdelnoor taking the trophy as
men’s champion and Hazel Robinson being crowned ladies
champion.
The format for 2012
will remain the same with 10 local races
included in the Championships. Your best 5 scores from
these races will count towards your final score at the
end of the season.
Please note that
due to the recommendations of the
1862
Select Committee on Weights and Measures
the FRA has bowed
to pressure and 'gone metric'. The "m" stands for
metres, the "km" means kilometres and is a little bit
less than a mile.
The point scoring system remains imperial
and will work exactly as last year:
1st open male finisher
gets 21 pts, 2nd 19 pts, 3rd 18 pts...
down to 20th male finisher
getting
1 pt. In the other
categories: ladies open, ladies V40, men V40 and men V50
the point scoring system begins with 11 pts for first
finisher, 9 pts for second etc.
This season sees more short and medium
races to encourage more folk to enter into the spirit of
the Club
Champs.
Ennerdale is the super-long
of the selection,
although Duxbury's
favourite, Grisedale Horseshoe, is no push-over medium.
Out-going Captain Ian Barnes is record holder for the
Turner Landscape, a great race in the Duddon Valley that
could do with our Club's support.
The short races include Causey Pike, a
classic race just outside Keswick; the hair-raising New
Dungeon Ghyll with it's epic climb and the wonderful
end-of-season finale at Dunnerdale.
The medium races include an extended
version of the Reston Scar Scamper to celebrate Pete and
Anne Bland's 50th Wedding Anniversary; Anniversary
Waltz, another northern classic around the Newlands
Valley, and a mid-week treat on the Helvellyn range.
Subject to approval, we should be having
our annual orienteering event on that mighty Lakeland
bastion of invincibility: Loughrigg Fell.

Have fun, enjoy the season and always be
over-competitive.
