Results

The 2006 Club Championship was a great success with 50 members taking part. The season ended with John Fleetwood taking the trophy as men’s champion and Anna Forrest being crowned ladies champion. The format for 2007 will remain the same with 10 local races included in the series. Your best 5 scores from these races will count towards your final score at the end of the season.

The point scoring system will also work exactly as last year – 1st 21pts, 2nd 19pts, 3rd 18pts…….to 20th 1pt. The age categories will also be as in past years – Men Open, Men V40, Men V50, Men V60, Ladies Open, Ladies V40.

The series starts with 2 Kendal Winter League races which usually start anytime between 12 and 1 o’clock and are not in the FRA calendar – see Helm Hill Runners website for details. As last year everyone will get the chance to demonstrate their orienteering skill (or lack of it!) at another club event on Loughrigg in April – different course this year though.

In May the midweek esoteric gem that is Caw Fell Race is included, followed later in the month by the 40th Fairfield Horseshoe Race – expect a large field for this one. Duddon Valley Fell Race is a bit of a beast at 20 miles as well as being a British and English championship race this year.

Mid June is the tough 8 mile Tebay race, why not give it a go if you haven’t done this one before? The other long race in the series will be Borrowdale at the start of August. The Arnison Crag Horseshoe is a short dash from Patterdale Dog Show. A small field may mean the chance of glory if you have a good run! The final race of the series will be Greizdale Horseshoe in September.

So get training and I’ll see you at the start line of the first race in March.
