Chris Waters from host club Ambleside took an early lead
and extended it up the steep and rocky approach to
Blisco Summit. He appeared to have plenty in reserve as
he comfortably held off Kendal vet Rick Stuart who has
enjoyed something of a resurgence this summer.
Jack Dugdale the Clayton junior, had a fine run to
finish fourth overall and Mel Hyder from Helm Hill
became the first junior girl ever to complete the
course, in the process winning the Womens Race outright
and taking home a bottle of highly illegal French lager.
Spare a moment to think of Gary Dickson who found the
top of Blisco successfully but then descended to the
wrong pub! Still, nice pint at the Three Shires they do
say. Thanks to Jo Taylor for summit marshalling duties.
As usual the distribution of said crap French lager was
completed in a rather idiosyncratic way. Apologies to
Rob Harper who won the vote-off for race ‘Fat Man’,
narrowly defeating Andy Gittings at the poll. (perhaps
narrowly is the wrong word!) Brox avoided any
embarrassment by turning spectator for the evening. We
learned that no granddads completed the course and so
the tent had to go elsewhere.
If you find all this rather mystifying then you’ll just
have to turn up at the Old Dungeon Ghyll next July wont
you? Third Wednesday in the month : 7pm start. Selwyn
