• The AGM, Tuesday 6th December 2005

Short but sweet this year as usual:

Decisions made:

  • Eric Parker stepped down as secretary after many years faithful service in this post. Thank you Eric. Paul Knowles will now bin all the letters that come the clubs way.

  • Roger Bell will continue to do an excellent job of looking after the club accounts next year. He handed round his sheets for 2005 and didn’t seem too alarmed about anything so I think all is in order. If anyone wants more information I’m sure you can get it from Roger.

  • Simon Stainer was swiftly re-elected as president, having spectacularly failed to perform his one annual task, that of chairing the AGM! In his absence Barrie Laycock stepped in and all was well.

  • Captains were elected also – Jane Leather will be ladies captain and Simon Stainer the mens captain. Thanks to Sue Owen for her years efforts as ladies captain and Gary Thorpe for his efforts last year.

  • The club agreed to fund a trip to Northern Ireland for the short British Championship race in April 2006 to the tune of £300 as in the past. Details here.

  • It was agreed that we should maintain our contribution to Ambleside Rugby Club where the club meet, change and shower on Tuesday nights in Winter.

  • After a brief discussion about the club championship for 2006 it was decided that British and English Championship races will be avoided and there will be more races in the series. It was also agreed that there will also be Tuesday night races races on club nights to encourage participation. Details now on this site.

  • Eric Parker and Geoff Clayton have agreed to take over the running of the Langdale race next year and will need help nearer the time. The money raised goes into the club and we all benefit so if you can help I’m sure it will be appreciated. Thanks to Jon Fish for organizing this extremely successful race for the past few years.

  • Dan Duxbury will organise Loughrigg Fell Race in April 2006. (Details here.) He will also organise a club ‘score’ orienteering event next year on a Tuesday night to be part of the club championship series of races.

  • Barrie Laycock also mentioned an informal club navigation weekend to improve members skills in this area if sodesired. This is yet to be arranged so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

  • The London marathon entries this year were claimed by Gary Thorpe, Geoff Clayton and Dan Duxbury. Thanks Eric for sorting these out again.

If you can think of anything that has been left out email Britta and it can be put it in.
