LANGDALE 2011 - RESULTS

11.00 am from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel (Great Langdale GR 286062)

The weather was much better than forecast - light rain, moderate wind on the tops, mediocre visibility. Underfoot was very wet so times were well down on normal.  364 ran, 343 finished, 19 retired or were timed out and 2 were disqualified.

Last years winner Oli Johnson of Dark Peak had to settle for 2nd place behind Carl Bell of Howgill Harriers (2.09.13 and 2.10.45) with Ambleside’s Ben Abdelnoor  3rd.  Mark Roberts (Borrowdale) ran even better than last year to be 1st V45 in 4th place in 2.12.38 beating all the Vet 40s. Mike Johnson retained his V50 title in 2.26.18 and 1st Vet55 was Richard Crossland of Calder Valley in 2.48.49. Perhaps the performance of the race was V65 Yiannis Tridimas (Bowland) beating all Vet 60s and finishing in 2.59.03. Paul Murray (Horwich) was leading V70 in 3.45.56.

As usual lady runners were scarce but quality was high. Hazel Robinson of Ambleside stormed home in 2.36.57 well ahead of Renee Saxton of Otley in 2.45.13. 1st LV40 and 3rd lady was Natasha Fellowes (Chorley) in 2.58.26. Kate Ayres of Ambleside was leading LV50 in 3.10.08 beating all LV45s. Evergreen Wendy Dodds (Clayton) was first LV60 in 3.19.33.  

Ambleside won both team competitions, with Ilkley 2nd in the ladies, Dark Peak and Bowland following on in the mens.

Mountain Rescue had to be called out for a serious knee injury coming off Blisco. After a couple of days in Lancaster hospital, he is back home, still in some pain but hopeful of full recovery.  Two runners left their cagoules with him (since returned) emphasising that kit rules are not just for a runners own comfort/safety!

ENTRY CONDITIONS

This year the race is a counter in the English Championship and we anticipate that the entry limit will be reached well before the official closing date of Saturday 3rd Oct. To enable as many individuals and teams to compete in the various championship categories (and the Lakeland Classics), some changes to the entry conditions will be applied for this year only.

1. Individual Entries

  • will be accepted until the entry limit is reached.

  • later entries will be placed on a reserve list in order of receipt, if requested.

  • cancellations will be accepted up to 2 weeks before the race (Sat 26th Sept) and a refund of the entry fee made.

  • cancelled places will be offered to those on the reserve list (to be accepted within 3 days). Cheques will only be cashed when the offer is accepted.

  • The website will be updated with lists of accepted entries and the reserve list.

2. Team Entries

  • in addition to individual entries clubs may reserve (and pay for) up to 5 entries.

  • by 2 weeks before the race (Sat 26th Sept) such entries may be allocated to runners in any team categories (English Championship & Lakes Classics) where the club has the possibility of a top 3 placing.

  • Unused entries will be allocated to individuals on the reserve list, and the club refunded that part of the entry fee.
