Wansfell 2016 Race Results
A fine day for a fine race. Good conditions brought 128 runners to our bonnie Ambleside fells: a light but chilly wind on the summit with plenty of sunshine and good visibility. 128 set out and 128 returned. Result!
Fourteen and a half minutes saw Sam Tosh and Rob Jebb reach the summit of Wansfell, leaving base camp holding their breaths on the finish line wondering if this year would be the year that Kenny Stuart’s legendary record would tumble. Excitement mounted when Sam flew into view at the cattle grid. However, despite a fantastically strong finish up the last 30 metres, he crossed the line in 19-02, just 6 seconds behind Kenny’s record with Rob chasing hard to finish in 20-00. A brilliant run by Sam, coming the closest to that record than anyone has been for many years. Within minutes of finishing he’d already uttered, “Next year…” Watch this space!
Another superb performance from Keswick’s Catherine Spurden (24-08) saw her steal the lassies’ race, but only just, from Helm Hill’s Hannah Russell (24-29).
Many thanks to all of those who ran and to all of those Ambleside AC members who helped out today.
