Ambleside
Junior Championship Races
Saturday June 20th 2009
Come and run ‘The Beast’
RESULTS
Venue
The races
will be held from the Kelsick Annexe of the Cumbria
University site in Ambleside village.
Access via
the Ambleside One-Way system: Turn left after the
Salutation Hotel, and immediately left again up Stock
Ghyll Lane. Races will be signed from here.
Follow lane
uphill for approx 500m to race venue.
There should
be ample free car parking at the venue for all. Please
do not park on the lane which has double yellows all the
way up. We shall be running a refreshment tent in aid of
club funds (Broughton Runners) and there will be toilets
on site.
These are
‘classic’ Lake District fell races – steep and tussocky!
Our Start/Finish field is not for the faint hearted. The
distances are short – we think you’ll understand why!
The Races
All
courses will be flagged and marshalled
We've
made a change involving the Under 8s and Under 10s. We
think it would be better to have a separate race for
each category. So the Under 8s will race first at 2pm,
followed by the Under 10s at 2.15pm. This will also
enable us to make the U 10s course a bit longer, and
both will now miss out the flat section and continue
straight up the hill. All the other races will as a
result start 15 minutes later than advertised.
2pm
U8s
800m 350’ climb
This is an
‘out and back’ course which starts up the steep and
tussocky pasture behind the car park.
From the top
of the pasture the course goes through the wall gap and
turns left along a flattish path for 100m before turning
right onto the main Wansfell tourist path climbing
uphill steeply to the turn point. Descend same way.
2.15pm
U10s.
TBC
Details to
be confirmed.
2.35pm
U12s
2km 650’ climb
As for the U
8s and U10s. Course continues up the steep fell path
before turning and returning the same way.
3.00pm
U14s
3km 1075’ climb
As for the
previous courses. You will continue right to Wansfell
Summit before turning. It may be short but this is the
classic Senior Wansfell Race route minus the boring bit
on the road.
3.30pm
U16s
and
U18s
4km 1575’ climb
Same as
before – except you guys get to do it twice! When you
get to the top first time you’ll go off on a loop which
brings you back to the bottom of the final 500’ push.
Save something for it!!
Please do
not recce the Start/Finish field which is Private
Property. Please do not park at Kelsick at any other
time than Race Day (like me you’ll end up £30 worse off)
